Sooooooo I’m already reading NINTH HOUSE by Leigh Bardugo and it’s fuck-you good. Like I’m not letting myself read more tonight until I hit my word count goals (books to write, man), but then I’m probably not sleeping until I finish it.
It’s her first adult title, and it’s ridiculously good. If you’ve missed talk about this book, it’s all Ivy League secret societies and arcane magic and the writing is gorgeous.
But! There are more books out today that are also super crazy good. Here are my other top picks:
THE BEAUTIFUL by Renée Ahdieh – Vampires. New Orleans. YA. No one is surprised that I want to read this.
INTO THE CROOKED PLACE by Alexandra Christo – Dark magic and found family with a bunch of magic-dealing outsiders.
SHARPEST STING by Jennifer Estep – I love magical assassin stories, and Gin Blanco is one of my favorites.
THE BURNING SHADOW by Jennifer L. Armentrout – More in her Origin series! Yes!
A LUSH AND SEETHING HELL by John Hornor Jacobs – Two powerful horror novellas in one edition. If you’re in the mood for dark and engaging, snag this.
