Do you ever read a book and immediately know it’s going to make your best of the year list? I love when that happens. I’ve already had a couple this year that were that amazing.
You know the ones. The ones that keep you up until 4 a.m. because one more chapter couldn’t hurt. Well, a few tweets of late tell me folks are looking for some great YA books. Two of my 2013 bests so far fall in that category: Endless Knight by Kresley Cole and The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa. Both books are the second in series, and they are both ones I gave five stars to out of the gate.
Unfortunately, neither are ones you can read without reading the first book. What’s excellent is the first book in each series is pretty damn phenomenal, too.
If you want your YA book full of mystery, the apocalypse (!!) and get-me-a-fan steamy romance, you’ll want to pick up Poison Princess by Kresley Cole. The first Arcana Chronicles book is a great crossover for adults looking to find the right YA book, and it straight-up blew me away. The sequel is even better (and comes out next week).
Now, when it comes to Julie Kawaga, I’m pretty much a fangirl. I adored her Iron Fey series and got all swoony over Prince Ash from that series, but can we just talk about her Blood of Eden books? The first one The Immortal Rules was this gorgeous tale of survival and hope and trying to be better than what’s expected of you. Plus, you know, forbidden love. And zombies that are vampires that are zombies. Wait! It gets better: The heroine carries a katana. Badassery abounds!
What books have already made your best of 2013 list?
