Streaming video services have made going on TV benders too easy. My husband and I both will default to a lazy afternoon of watching episode after episode of our favorite shows. (His go-to is Top Gear. I default to Buffy the Vampire Slayer or The Vampire Diaries.) I’m not complaining. Netflix Streaming and Amazon Instant Video have allowed me to relive favorite shows—you can see Firefly any time you like—and get hooked into cult favorites I somehow missed out on.
For example, last summer I devoured the entirety of Battlestar Galactica. I didn’t really think it was my kind of show. Oh, how wrong I was. Survival dramas with fantasy elements are a huge win with me (Lost, The Walking Dead), so once I started watching there was no stopping me with BSG. I fell for Apollo, wanted to be Starbuck and wanted to work “so say we all” into casual conversation.
Last spring, I re-watched all of Lost. I’ve done jaunts of non-fantasy shows like Sons of Anarchy and Downton Abbey, but I love being able to fall into the a nice cultish geek-out show.
This week I started watching Fringe again from the first season because I just miss it on TV so much. However, it’s not like I haven’t seen it before. So, I come to you, readers. What TV show should I devour next? Old, new, canceled or otherwise. If it’s available streaming, I’ll seek it out. Help me continue to flesh out my geek repertoire.
If you haven’t already, Sherlock. The first season is on netflix but you will have to go to another source for the next (I just bought it cause I loved the first season so much). But be warned each season is only 3 1 1/2 hour episodes and they take like a three year break in-between each season, so the hiatus is hell.
I’ve heard this is very good. I’ll add it to the queue.
HAVEN…Based on Stephen Kings “Colorado Kid” OUTSTANDING…Must watch Season1of course and so on…To get The Whole Experience. .. Will ck when it starts up again..Set in Maine.I also watch DA..January 2013 🙁 And Justified Will be back…<3 Them all, Addictive..
In addition to Sherlock, I also like the BBC’s Wallander. However, for true cult status, you can’t go wrong with either the X-Files or Twin Peaks. Though, if you’re watching the X-Files, it might be best to pretend that the series ends in season five.
I watched X-Files when it was on. That could be a good one to revisit.
Haven’t heard of Wallander. *Googles*
Doctor Who. Sherlock. Supernatural. 😀
Oh, almost forgot: If you like Buffy, watch Lost Girl.
LOVE Lost Girl.
I wish I had my own Kenzi side kick.
Being Human (UK version is better than US version, but I watch both). It’s about a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost living together. It’s both hilarious and heart-breaking.
I’ve watched the US version, but not the UK. I’ll move the latter up the Netflix queue.
GRIMM! I was a huge X-Files fan growing up, and Grimm kind of reminds me of it, only it’s fairy tales instead of aliens. I’m also a big fan of Leverage (Elliot is pretty damn yummy). The BF and I have sped through the first two seasons and we’re on season three.
I’ve been watching Grimm. First season was hit or miss, but so far I’m wrapped back into the story.
I’m currently on a Doctor Who binge and loving it!
My go-to shows are Buffy, Supernatural, and BSG. Nice to find another Fringe fan. I lurve that show so hard. I have to agree with the Haven suggestion. Season two will be released on DVD soon and the new season starts in a couple of weeks. Squee! If you haven’t watched Dark Angel, give it a try. Jessica Alba kicks ass and season two features a young, smart ass Jensen Ackles. You’re obviously a Whedon fan, did you watch Dollhouse? It grew to be a really good show plus Helo is on there. Mmmm Helo. Now my thought are with Helo aboard Galactica. I just may have to re-watch that show again.*grins*
If you haven’t tried Burn Notice, Community or Chuck they are all brilliant shows!
Burn notices are official messages that are sent from one intelligence agency to another to inform the latter about the doubt over some another intelligence offshoot or agent being reliable any longer. The burned branch is disbanded and if a single person is involved then he is rusticated from all services, denied access to cash or authority and closely watched. This catastrophe hits our hero Michael Weston played by Jeffery Donovan. After returning from a failed venture in Nigeria, Weston returns to his home and ex –girlfriend in Miami, Florida. But what he realizes on his return is that along with the undertaking he has also failed his good name and the trust of his organization. In case you wish to revisit all the dramatic instances, then catch Burn Notice episodes online.*
